"Those who approach the sacrament of Reconciliation / Penance obtain pardon from God's mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion." (CCC 1422)

What is Reconciliation

God’s mercy is always waiting to welcome us home. In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we bring our sins to Jesus, receive His forgiveness, and are reconciled with God and His Church. Through the priest, Christ offers us healing and the grace to turn back to Him and begin again.

Reconciliation is more than acknowledging what we have done wrong—it is an encounter with Christ’s loving mercy and an invitation to keep growing in holiness. (CCC 1469)

Who Should Receive Reconciliation

Reconciliation is for baptized Catholics who seek God’s forgiveness and want to turn back to Him. Anyone conscious of having committed a mortal sin should receive the sacrament before receiving Holy Communion. Confession of venial sins is also encouraged, and can help us grow in faith and resist sin. (CCC 1493)

How to Prepare for Reconciliation

Take a few quiet moments to pray and examine your conscience. Think about where you have turned away from God or hurt others, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you be honest and truly sorry. You may use an examination of conscience to guide you.

When you come to confession, tell your sins simply and honestly, and let the priest know when you last went to confession. Listen to his guidance, accept the penance he gives you, and pray an Act of Contrition. If you are unsure what to say or do, simply tell the priest and he will help you.

When is Reconciliation Available

Our Confessionals are located in Assumption Chapel. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available:

• Saturdays at 3:30PM
• Wednesdays at 6:00PM
• By Appointment

First Reconciliation

Preparation for First Reconciliation typically begins in second grade along with preparing for First Holy Communion.
