Marriage

"The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament." (CCC 1601)

Marriage Preparation & Wedding Scheduling

Congratulations on your engagement! We rejoice with you as you begin this joyful chapter of your lives. We are honored that you are considering celebrating the Sacrament of Matrimony at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church.

Marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, ordered to the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children - and, between baptized persons, it is raised by Christ to the diginity of a sacrament. (CCC 1601 & Canon Law, 1055)

The Church asks that sufficient time be given so you can prepare in a meaningful way for the responsibilities of the sacrament. For that reason, please begin this process at least six months before your desired wedding date.

Marriage preparation is meant to be an initiation into the sacrament, helping you receive Matrimony worthily and begin your life as a family with courage and generosity. (Amoris Laetitia, 207)

Marriage Preparation

  • Be a Registered Parishioner

At least one member of the engaged couple must be a registered parishioner of our parish for a minimum of six months before scheduling a wedding. If you are unsure of your registration status, please contact the Parish Office at (405) 354-2743.

Your first step is to schedule an initial meeting with Deacon Cliff Fitzmorris before selecting or confirming a wedding date.

During this meeting you will:

  • Learn about the required marriage preparation process
  • Review the marriage preparation timeline
  • Complete the necessary initial paperwork
  • Receive the St. John Nepomuk Wedding Planning Guide
  • Discuss available wedding dates

  • Complete Marriage Preparation

As part of your preparation for the Sacrament of Matrimony, couples will complete the following:

  • Marriage preparation meetings with Deacon Cliff
  • Pre-Cana preparation
  • Required marriage documentation
  • Meet with our Wedding Coordinator
  • Liturgy planning with the Director of Liturgy & Music
