Why is receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation Important?

Confirmation perfects Baptismal grace; it is the sacrament in which the Holy Spirit roots us more deeply in the divine filiation, incorporates us more firmly into Christ, strengthens our bond with the Church, associates us more closely with her mission, and helps us bear witness to the Christian faith in words accompanied by deeds.”  – Catechism of the Catholic Church

Confirmation is a sacrament of Christian Initiatin and a lifelong source of spiritual strength for following Jesus and serving others.

Preparing Your Child for the Sacrament of Confirmation

Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation includes both ongoing faith formation and immediate preparation.

Ongoing preparation begins in the years leading up to Confirmation through Catholic school theology and/or parish religious education. Immediate preparation typically begins when a child is entering the sixth grade and focuses on the specific teachings and responsibilities associated with the Sacament of Confirmation.

This preparation includes prayer, study of the Catholic faith, participation in the life of the Church, retreats, and service opportunities. Candidates will deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, grow in their understanding of the Church, and prepare to live as faithful disciples and witnesses. Confirmation is a commitment to continued growth in faith and service.

Expectations and Requirements:

A Candidate for Confirmation must:

• Be entering at least the sixth grade and have a willing and open heart to be confirmed.
• Be registered in our parish
• Have received the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, and First Holy communion.
• Be in a state of grace and have the intention of receiving the sacrament.
• Be willing to live as a disciple and witness to Christ in the Church and in daily life.

Parents and guardians also have an important role in preparing their children by nurturing their faith, supporting their participation in parish life, and actively participating in the sacramental preparation process.
