CHILDHOOD MINISTRY (PreK4-6)

CHILDHOOD MINISTRY

Sunday Mornings 9:15am - 10:15am

Our Childhood Ministry welcomes children in Pre-K4 through 6th grade for a Sunday morning faith formation program centered on age-appropriate catechesis. Through prayer, engaging lessons, and hands-on activities children grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ, deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith, and learn to live as His disciples.

Registration for 2026-2027 Childhood Ministry year is now open

What to Expect on Sunday Mornings

  • Catechesis (by grade/class):  Children participate in prayer and faith formation designed specifically for their grade level.  Each lesson introduces them more deeply to the person of Jesus Christ while helping them grow in their knowledge and love of the Catholic faith. We use the Discover curriculum from St. Mary's Press, a comprehensive year-by-year program that allows each grade level to build upon previous learning. As children progess through the program, they develop a deeper understanding of Sacred Scripture, Catholic teachings, and the richness of our faith.

  • Faith Enrichment Days:  Throughout the year children participate in special Faith Enrichment Days featuring interactive games, crafts, service projects, and hands-on activities.  Each year follows a unique faith centered theme that invites children to explore an important aspect of the Catholic faith in a fun, engaging, and memorable way. These experiences encourage the children to discover the beauty of the Church's teachings and see how the Gospel shapes every part of their lives.

  • Family Days:  Faith is nurtured most effectively when the family and parish work together. Throughout the year, parents and guardians are invited to join their children during class time for Family Days featuring shared prayer and organized activities.  These gatherings strengthen the partnership between home and parish while supporting the Church's vision of the family as the "Domestic Church", the first place where children encounter Christ and learn to live the Catholic faith. Families are encouraged to continue this journey at home through prayer, Sacred Scripture, and celebrations that follow the liturgical year.

Childhood Ministry Schedule

Childhood Ministry meets in the parish school building on Sunday mornings, beginning after Labor Day in September and concluding on the Sunday before Mother's Day in May.

Registered families of St. John Nepomuk Parish will receive registration information by mail each August.

If your family is new to the parish, welcome!  You may register online or visit the parish office, and we will be happy to help you become part of our Childhood Ministry community.  If you have any further questions, contact Jo Anna Bannister, Director of Faith Formation, at jbannister@sjnok.org.

CHILDHOOD SACRAMENT PREPARATION

Need to catch up on the Sacraments?

Parents and the parish work together so baptized children can reach the completion of Christian initiation through Eucharist and Confirmation. If your child is in need of this assistance, the parish will provide age-appropriate formation to prepare your children to receive the sacraments with readiness and a living faith. To begin this journey contact Jo Anna Bannister, Director of Faith Formation, at jbannister@sjnok.org.
